Delivery by drone

In the news today...

Amazon have been given the go-ahead by the Government for trial areas where drones (technically known as UAVs - unmanned aerial vehicles) can deliver packages up to 5lb in weight to consumers and businesses.

The Government says the trials will help it draw up new rules and regulations for the future, so that all companies can take advantage of drone technology.

There are obviously many issues that need to be carefully considered including security and privacy (most consumer drones have cameras).

You may not be wholly comfortable or convinced about the technology, but, just as driverless cars are set to become mainstream, commercial drones will play a huge part in the future.

In today's press an American company has just launched a new generation of drones with inbuilt artificial intelligence. These drones can be programmed, and will learn, to avoid obstacles and make rational decisions based on information from the onboard camera.

Latest news!! Watch out for lamppost and telegraph poles being modified to accommodate a charging platform for these drones. Currently this is in America, but who knows it might spread to the UK!
